Yet Bayer HealthCare takes an even broader view of social responsibility. To us social responsibility relates to increasingly pressing ethical questions about the medical uses of modern biotechnology, as well as to global access to life-saving drugs. There are issues in which Bayer HealthCare expressly takes a stand, and to which the company is seeking answers on a global scale – in connection with the Global Compact Initiative.

Innovation is the key to Bayer HealthCare's economic success; it is also at the core of our social engagement. This is why we invest considerable sums every year in the research and development of new drugs and therapies. We want all people – regardless of where they come from or how much they earn – to be able to benefit from this progress.

The main focus of our social engagement is on long-term cooperation with recognized development organizations and international bodies. Our engagement has three clear priorities:

• In more than 130 countries, we actively support the cause of giving people access to a wide range of family-planning methods, irrespective of their income.
• We support the fight against neglected tropical diseases.
• We offer programs for improving access to innovative medicines.

Environment

Bayer HealthCare take climate change as an environmental and economic challenge seriously. It affects the foundations of our commercial activity. On the one hand, endeavors in the field of climate protection have to be strengthened. On the other, greater attention needs to be paid to innovative solutions to deal with the consequences of climate change. Bayer HealthCare intends to make specific contributions to both.
